ABOUT US!
Hi there and welcome! My name is Michelle and I am the one woman show behind Festival Candle Company!
We are a military family and have been for 13 years. We have 2 children -- Liam is 5 and Noah is 2 and a half.
I decided to start a candle business in late 2019 when I saw a market available for it in my area. Until then, I had only played around with candle making while I was pregnant but was only a hobby. When I decided to launch Festival Candle Co. in November 2019, never in my wildest nightmares would I have predicted what 2020 held... but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
Thank God I started a business where people could enjoy my products at home and make their time there a little more enjoyable. The fact that my candles brightened peoples' days during a rather "dark" time just brings me so much joy-- this is where our slogan "Light Up The Dark" came from!
There are so many different reasons why I love candling but most of all, this little business allows me to take on a role other than "Mom" and "Wife", which is honestly really, really important to me. I'll explain why...
Post partum anxiety and depression reared it's ugly head about 4 months after both pregnancies when I began to feel like that is all I was... "Wife" and "Mom". Now, I am in NO WAY implying those titles aren't an HONOR to have (we tried for years to get pregnant with our first before discovering I had stage 4 endometriosis and we would need help via IVF). But when a woman feels like that's all she is, has no time to fill up her own "cup" so to speak, and is running on very little sleep, it can begin to feel like life is a little like the movie "Groundhog Day". When you slowly begin to feel like the identity you had before becoming a Mom is gone, that can seem very devastating.
That being said, being a Mom to two sweet boys is the most rewarding thing I've ever experienced and I know it's an equally important job. After baby #2 I still felt like I needed to wrap myself up in something fun and new and unleash some ideas I had been pondering for quite some time. I needed to get back to what I was good at --art and CREATING.
Finding your niche after PPD can really turn things around. If you ARE lucky enough to find your "purpose" (other than being a Mom --which, again, is the most amazing purpose by the way), it's an incredible thing to realize and boy, oh boy, it can really improve your mood, outlook and it might even make you a better Mom and Wife!
I found candling and I am SO thankful for this craft. I love what I do and I love that others are loving what I do too! I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate your love and support for my small business. It's keeping my dream alive and you have no idea how much that means to me. But maybe now after hearing my story, you may understand a little better.
❤ Michelle
